Young singing star tops classic proms event

THERE are still some tickets left to see chart-topping songstress Hayley Westenra as the star soloist in a proms concert being held at RAF Cranwell.

The RAF Cranwell Proms Picnic in the Park is being staged in front of historic College Hall on Friday July 10 at 7.30pm with music by the Band of the RAF Regiment under the baton of Director of Music, Flying Officer Matt Little.

The young New Zealander began performing when she was just six years old and made her first recording in a professional studio at 12. She was still only 16 when she released her debut international CD, Pure. It rapidly became the fastest-selling debut album from a classical artist, reached number one in the UK classical charts and reached the Top 10 of the pop charts in 11 countries. Her albums have sold more than four million copies worldwide to date.

She is the biggest selling classical artist of the 21st Century and has performed for the Royal family including the Queen and Prince Charles, Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush. She is also an ambassador for UNICEF.

The concert of light classical music will be compered by veteran comedian Jim Bowen and will have a spectacular firework finale to music. Food and refreshments are available on site and there are still tickets available priced at 20 each.

Bring your own picnic and seating. Send a SAE to: Tony Crossman, Service Funds, SHQ, RAF Cranwell, NG34 8HB with a cheque made payable to Service Funds, RAF Cranwell. Provide names and addresses of all guests attached to this form. Proceeds will go to service charities.
