As we mentioned on August 27 in our Nostalgia section from 1965, landlady at The Plough Inn, Wilsford, Janet Hutton, revealed her hobby was motor racing.
The grandmother was training under Jim Russell at Snetterton race circuit for a racing driver’s licence with the hope of driving for BRM or one of the other top teams from Formula 1.
She had even been advised by world champion Graham Hill, top driver for BRM, which was based at Bourne, but had a test track on Folkingham airfield.
Here we have a photograph taken by The Standard from when the two met with Janet behind the wheel. Did she ever fulfil her dream? Let us know on 01529 415981, or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
