Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that a large number of motorcycles will be travelling in convoy on Friday afternoon through Sleaford.
The bikers will be set off from the clubhouse of the North Lincolnshire branch of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club at Donington, heading across the county to attend the Federation of Harley Davidson Clubs Europe Super Rally at the Lincolnshire Showground which begins today (Thursday May 21) and carries on all weekend. The rally is being organised by the West London Harley Riders Club and is the first time the raly has been held in England for 26 years.
A police spokeswoman told The Standard: “It is expected that large numbers of motorcyclists attending the event will be using our county’s roads over this Bank Holiday weekend. As part of the planning for the event a roads policing policy has been developed, which will seek to minimise disruption to other road users.
“Police officers will be in the locality as the group makes its way to the showground on Friday to manage any impact the numbers may have on infrastructure.”
She added: “Lincolnshire Police welcomes all visitors to the county over this weekend and wishes everyone a safe and happy Bank Holiday weekend.”
The bikers are believed to be setting off between 2-3pm, taking the A17 to Sleaford, around Sleaford town centre and up to Holdingham Roundabout, the A15 to Bracebridge Heath and through Lincoln to the showground.
The event will feature hundreds of Harley-Davidsons, an air display from the Red Arrows, Battle of Britain Lancaster Bomber flypast and numerous big band performances.
Mal Nijjar, company secretary for West London Harley Riders, said: “We are all very excited to finally be able to bring the event to the UK and we hope that motorcycle fans, both riders and non-riders enjoy the event, just as much as we do.
“It is a great event where people come together with a common interest to enjoy the many activities the event has to offer and each year we welcome as many as 10,000 visitors.”
The 30 year old Super Rally is organised by Harley-Davidson riders on behalf of the Harley-Davidson Federation with a different club hosting the event each year across Europe.
Mal added: “The Super Rally isn’t just about the bikes, it is about meeting new friends, discovering other countries and cultures.”
The event will also host a Knights of the Dammed Medieval jousting show and a Man vs Food competition which will provide the ultimate challenge for food lovers.
Tickets on the day will be £75 with breakfast up to £2.50 included.
The Super Rally donates part of the ticket prices to its chosen charities Headway and National Youthbike.
