The Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows the district has jumped from number 17 in 2015 to number one in the life satisfaction category and is second only to Eden with people feeling like life is worthwhile, up from 31st position last year.

In the other two of the four categories, it ranked 25th – in the top 10 per cent - for happiness and is 63rd – the top 25 per cent - for least anxiety.

The figures are based on all 326 English district and unitary authority areas.

Coun Marion Brighton, Leader of North Kesteven District Council, said: “It is fantastic to see North Kesteven recognised for its life satisfaction for its residents – a real indication that our quality of life is among the best.

“Surveys such as this reflect on the good work of all public authorities and their partners in the way they deliver high quality services for everyone who lives and works here.

“We are committed to ensuring all aspects of life for our residents are enhanced by playing an active part in partnerships, initiatives, and other ways to see that this is achieved.

“We know that North Kesteven is a wonderful place to live. Long may this continue.”

The ONS results build on a good year for the district as the Halifax Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey – released earlier in 2016 – ranked NK 14th in the country, with this listing based on measures as diverse as broadband availability, employment, weekly earnings, crime, affordability of houses, and schools’ success to hours of rainfall and hours of sunshine.
