The theme of the weekend was the people and customs of the Nord, the region where Marquette is situated. Sleaford twinners arrived to browse an exhibition of paintings, followed by a “bring a dish” supper to taste of some local dishes such a Tarte aux Maroilles (a flan made with local cheese).
The next day the whole group went to Bergues, walking around the ramparts, exploring the town centre and visiting cafés, then a guided tour of the sites of the Dany Boon film “Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis” set in this region. There was an evening of speeches, gifts, food and dancing, along with a birthday cake for the 15th anniversary of the twinning between Marquette and Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf. Entertainment was provided by German male voice choir Eichen Männerchor.
The final day saw a tour of the Musée des Beaux Arts in Lille to see art ranging from ancient Egyptian artefacts to impressionist paintings before shopping and heading home.
