In the centre is Michael Brown. He contacted us about Sgt Charlie George whose photograph we showed last week.

Mr Brown recalls he was a member of Sleaford Cricket Club who lived with his sister, Ena, in Handley Street. Mr Brown said: “He was quite a character and used to come for a beer at the cricket club. When he died his photograph was hung in the cricket club.”

Close friend Coun Keith Dolby said Mr George was a regular, walking to the club into his 90s.

Coun Dolby said Sgt George served in both World Wars, spending most of the second at Metheringham airfield.

He said: “He told me lots of stories and said he kept an album all the way through the First World War and would give it to me as I was the only one who would look after it.”

As far as he knew Charlie had no living relatives.
