ASDA supermarket chain has expressed an interest in bringing a store to Mablethorpe – East Lindsey District Council have confirmed.
Asda's Acquisition Surveyor John Mutton met with the council recently to discuss looking for a suitable site in the town.
Mr Mutton also met with Mablethorpe's Retail Development group, who have long been campaigning for an Asda store.
During this meeting members presented Mr Mutton with over 4,000 signed letters of support which they had collected over the last few months.
Group Chairman Ros Hicks said: "He seemed quite overwhelmed by the amount of letters and said in his experience he had never known of such support from residents."
She explained: "The aim of our group is to create a more buoyant economy, not for shops to go out of business. Because we have so little choice here, those of us who are able to, go to Grimsby, Boston or Skegness, those who cannot have to make do or go without."
On April 30 this year the Leader reported on how the group 'stormed' the council offices to demand an Asda store in the town. A spokesperson for Asda said at the time they were not looking for a new store in Mablethorpe.
Ros added: "If we have sufficient outlets it will encourage more people to shop here and consequently, spend their money in the town."
