Wednesday 9.45am - PROVIDING much needed parcels of toiletries to soldiers serving in Afghanistan is the goal for this Mablethorpe resident.
Carole Naisby from Cannon Guest House on Waterloo Road is appealing to our readers to donate any unwanted toiletry or cosmetic items to fill shoeboxes she has been sending to troops.

She said: "I started doing this around four weeks ago as the troops are desperately in need of toiletries as they just don't have access to them out there."

Carole, whose husband Sgt Bradley Jackson is serving in the army, began collecting items such as shower gel, razorblades and sanitary items aided by donations from local businesses and friends.

She said: "The conditions are terrible for the soldiers in Afghanistan, being extremely cold at night and very hot in the day. People also often forget there are women serving out there too – and there are some ladies' toiletry items that would be greatly appreciated."

Carole said the local shoe shops in Mablethorpe have been fantastic, supplying her with the empty shoeboxes. So far, she has managed to fill and send around 40 of the boxes – and is appealing for help to continue her campaign: "Any toiletry items will be welcome – they don't have to be brand new or unopened."

* To donate to the appeal drop in at Cannon Guest House on Waterloo Road, Mablethorpe.
