A SPECIALIST motor museum near Sleaford is auctioning off some of its cars, spares and other memorabilia to make room for a series of new displays.
Enthusiasts are expected to flock from far and wide to the auction at the Bubble Car Museum, Byard’s Leap, on Saturday, October 18, when owners Mike and Paula Cooper will be selling over 80 classic bubblecars, microcars, motorcycles and other automobilia in varying states of restoration – some in perfect running order.
Exciting lots include iconic versions of cars such as the Isetta, Messerschmidt, Bond and Heinkel, as well as obscure examples such as an electric sewer inspection vehicle.
A Messerschmidt, restored by Mr Cooper himself, is among the lots.
Mrs Cooper said it was time to clear the decks as they were becoming over-crowded with spare vehicles as they have gradually ‘traded up’, replacing vehicles with examples in better condition.
She said: “We want to do a Best of British exhibition and concentrate on the British produced cars, of which there are many. It took us ages to clear it all out, we didn’t realise how much we had accumulated.” If successful they may make the auction an annual thing. Other car enthusiasts and owners are joining in the sale too.
The auction is being held in a marquee at the museum, just off the A17, and is being handled by Golding Young of Grantham.
Mrs Cooper said they would not be getting rid of all the foreign cars, but there was a definite interest in the home grown cars such as the Bonds, which were hugely popular in the 1950s.
The museum, which now has charitable status, will be opening to visitors for the last time this season this coming weekend.
