PARISHIONERS are being asked to give more generously to pay for urgent restoration works to their church tower.
The tower of St Botolph's Church, Quarrington has just undergone expensive restoration work, which has shown that the top of the spire is in need of urgent action to make it safe.
This work coincides with the financial review of Quarrington Church finances. The review reveals that there will be an increased need for funding over the next four years to ensure the parish church can continue with its day to day life, making sure it is available to the current community for the future.
In a letter to parishioners in the run up to the day of patron saint, St Botolph, parishioner Barbara Jones has appealed on behalf of the church's leaders, the Parochial Church Council, for help.
She said: "Regular giving is the financial mainstay of church life and needs to provide £35,000 of the total annual cost of £52,000.
“We are hoping people will consider joining with others to preserve our heritage by agreeing to make a regular gift. If you are able to sign a gift aid declaration your giving will be enhanced by a 25 per cent tax refund, making your contribution even more valuable."
Parishioners are invited to a buffet supper on Wednesday, May 14, to join guest speaker the Bishop of Grantham, the Rt Rev Dr Tim Ellis, at St Botolph's Church, Town Road, Quarrington. The event starts at 7.30pm.
l To book your place for the buffet supper, contact Jean Cornford on 01529 414409. You can also contact church warden Doug Cornford on the same number or Chris Carpenter on 01529 303815 for more information.
