Eco2 say it will generate 300 million units of renewable electricity each year, equivalent to powering 65,000 homes.

Mr Williams said it will put Sleaford at the centre of a new fuel supply network worth well over £6 million per year, creating 50 new jobs locally in growing, harvesting and supplying the fuel and another 30 at the site itself.

Mr Williams said: “The people of North Kesteven have already demonstrated their awareness of environmental issues. During the district's Shape NK consultation exercise, they demanded a commitment to sustainability, resulting in an objective to encourage local employment opportunities within food and energy production. Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant marries perfectly with this target.

“The plant will need local jobs, goods and services. We must become part of the economic fabric of this community and we look forward to the prospect. It is wonderful that Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant can offer such a significant contribution to the UK's renewable energy needs whilst also securing a vibrant future for agriculture and engineering in and around Sleaford.”
