A RECYCLING firm has retained its contract to handle all recycled materials collected in South Kesteven.
Mid UK Recycling Ltd, based in Caythorpe, which also handles the recycled waste for North Kesteven, has successfully bid for a three-year continuation of its current contract, which was awarded after a four-way contest.

Mid UK receives and sorts r
ecycled materials collected by South Kesteven District Council from all 58,000 homes in the district. Sorted materials are prepared for processing into raw materials for use in the production of new goods.

Mid UK also receives all of the district’s garden waste for composting. Last year residents of South Kesteven recycled and composted over 51 per cent of all the waste. When it comes to dry recyclables – plastic, paper, glass and tins – people in South Kesteven recycle more than residents in any other part of Lincolnshire.

But North Kesteven comes top when combining dry recycled and green garden waste.

However, South Kesteven is hoping to that its new green waste bin collection system will improve its overall recycling figure significantly.

Dawn Temple, South Kesteven District Council’s street scene manager, said: “We’re delighted to continue to work with Mid UK.

“They have helped us to launch and establish a really successful, value for money service to everyone in the district and we look forward to working together with all our residents to keep driving down the amount of waste we send to landfill.”

l According to figures recorded by Lincolnshire County Council, in 2007/08 South Kesteven recycled 35.4 per cent out of 392.8kg of waste per head of dry recyclables (paper, cardboard, tins, glass and plastic).

During that same period, North Kesteven recycled 29.3 per cent of its dry recyclables from 457.1kg of waste per head.
