CONCERNS have been raised by town councillors on the proposed demolition of the former Co-op Homemaker store in Market Place, Sleaford.
Owners Peachy Investments are seeking listed building consent from North Kesteven District Council to demolish the entire structure on the grounds that it is unsafe.
Speaking at he applications committee of Sleaford Town Council, town and district councillor Tim Conning said the district council’s planning department was in the dark about what might replace the property.
Fellow town and district councillor Geoff Hazelwood believed there may be pressure from the district council to make it safe.
Acting leader of the town council Mark Graves applauded the fact that some sort action was being taken about the building and felt sure the structures to the rear of the building were too far gone to rescue. He had no problem with the principle of demolition, apart from the fascia, but said he would like to see what is planned to go in its place. He recommended the town council object to the scheme at this time.
The district council is due to make a decision on the plans on May 21.
