A new allotment site in a village near Sleaford has been officially opened – three-and-a-half years after the project was incepted.
Caythorpe and Frieston Parish Council put aside £15,000 of its own money and secured £10,000 more from the Big Lottery Fund to create the Caythorpe Allotments, off Gorse Hill Lane. Planning permission was also required for the project.
The site, leased from the Lincoln Diocese, accepted its first tenant in April and already has a waiting list. Ahead of this, its previous tenant farmers, G R Wards, were instrumental in helping to clear and prepare the land ready for occupation.
Last Monday, as overall project manager, Coun Geoff Ashcroft (third from right) invited parish council chairman Coun Bruce Nelson (second from right) to formally open the site.
