£150,000 boost for leisure centre project
THE project to completely refurbish Sleaford Leisure Centre is to benefit from an extra £150,000 cash injection.
The extra funding is the largest share of £340,000 awarded to five venues in Lincolnshire by Sport England to improve sports facilities.
The announcement was made yesterday as part of Places, People, Play – Sport England’s programme to deliver a London 2012 legacy of increased public participation in sport. The money has been awarded through the Inspired Facilities Fund,
It is a boost to North Kesteven District Council’s £2,850,000 plans to refurbish the ageing leisure centre with a modern deck level pool, unisex changing village, changing facility, toddler splash zone, gym, dance studio, health suite and improved viewing areas.
NKDC chief executive Ian Fytche said: “Not only does this funding announcement allow us to deliver a better centre for the people of Sleaford and contribute more to the town’s regeneration but it also allows the council to spread its limited resources further in promoting healthier lifestyles.”
The centre will close in the autumn for the year-long refurbishment programme.
