All posts will be made redundant when leisure centre closes for refurbishment

PLANS for the modernisation of Sleaford Leisure Centre will mean many of the 30 staff employed there will be out of a job when the centre closes next month for the work to begin.

Leisure Connection, who manage the centre, have confirmed that all 30 posts at the leisure centre are to be made redundant.

A spokesperson for Leisure Connection said: “Unfortunately all staff roles are being made redundant but alternative employment has been provided at other Leisure Connection sites for a number of staff and Leisure Connection will be continuing to find as many alternative positions as possible up until the closure.”

The centre is due to close on October 8 and will undergo a major facelift as North Kesteven District Council is planning a year-long £2,850,000 refurbishment of the ageing leisure centre.

When completed, the new centre will include a modern deck level pool, unisex changing village, changing facility, toddler splash zone, gym, dance studio, health suite and improved viewing areas.

While the centre is closed alternative arrangements are being made for users to make use of other facilities.

The Leisure Connection spokesperson added: “We recognises the inconvenience Sleaford Leisure Centre’s closure will cause and have made arrangements for users to transfer to other fitness and swimming facilities it operates during the closure period.”

The gym equipment from the leisure centre will be relocated to Harpers at Sleaford on East Road to facilitate the increase in member numbers at that site

All current members of Harpers at Sleaford and those transferring from Sleaford Leisure Centre will be able to use the pool facilities inclusive of their membership at the North Kesteven Centre in North Hykeham, Grantham Meres Leisure Centre and Bourne Leisure Centre as part of their membership during the closure period.
