Boston Road layby to close?

THE Town Council is investigating costs and implications of closing its layby beside Boston Road Recreation Ground to prevent drivers using it as free parking space.

The move comes as the council had to spend £600 on temporary repairs to winter weather damage of the surface.

Members were advised the layby should be blocked off pending a decision on its future after plans to absorb it into the park were on hold. It was suggested it could be used for parking by the Tennis Club.

Chairman of the Services Committee Garry Titmus commented: “We are providing a free car park and it is costing us money to repair it. If we leave it we are inviting people to park there while being responsible for any damage.” North Kesteven District Council decided to make its Cogglesford Mill car park pay and display several years ago as it was being abused as a free all-day car park.
