Power cut affects town centre shops

Town centre businesses will have lost a day's trade having been forced to close due to a power cut today (Thursday)

A spokesman for Western Power Distribution says a fault in an underground cable caused 20 properties in the Bristol Arcade area of Sleaford to lose power at about 9.30am this morning.

He went on: “There are currently still 12 properties without power, but we have now found the fault and we are currently working to dig down and repair that piece of cable.

“We are hoping to restore most of those properties within the next one and a half hours and anticipate we will get all properties back on by 5pm.”

The power cut has meant alarms have been triggered and most shops, such as hairdressers, a cobbler and a cafe, have been unable to function and been forced to close or offer a reduced service. Western Power engineers were speaking to the occupiers affected and the power company spokesman said: “We do apologise for the problems caused today, please be assured we are working as hard as we can to rectify the situation.”
