SLEAFORD Community Cinema is re-launching after a six month break due to committee changes.
Volunteer manager Asha Kaur explained they had struggled with a shortage of members willing to serve on the organising committee.
She said: “We have enough ushers and things like that but not enough people behind the scenes. We are working with a skeleton crew but we have managed to reshuffle to cover two or three roles each and are actively seeking more committee members.”
They kick off the summer with a fiery film from the Marvel Comics series - Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance (Cert 12A). Nicholas Cage reprises his role as Johnny Blaze, hiding out in Eastern Europe, but is called upon to stop the Devil, who is trying to take human form. It also stars Ciaran Hinds and Idris Elba.
The showing at The Playhouse on Westgate, Sleaford starts at 7pm on Sunday July 22. For tickets at £3 each, go to www.sleafordcinema.co.uk
The cinema will be running a children’s programme throughout the summer, screening two films each Sunday, along with two ‘mystery screenings’ for something very current.
Asha said they were aiming to do a retro 1980s classic coupled with a more recent film. On July 29 it is Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam; August 5 The Black Knight and Back to The Future; August 19 Twilight/Lost Boys; August 26 Final Fantasy: The Spirits within/Ghostbusters; September 2 Wall-E/Short Circuit II.
The more frequent showings will hopefully raise the cinema’s profile to increase its younger audience.
