Council opposition to new retail units plan

TOWN councillors are objecting to plans to build retail units on land behind the former Victoria pub in Sleaford.

Proposals by Cyclesport Ltd of Grantham would see the Georgian building immediately to the rear of Lincolnshire Interiors, off Southgate, converted into retail/restaurant premises, with the single storey extension in front demolished and replaced. Attached to it, in the space running down to the Thai Sabai, would be three more two-storey retail units.

The company points out that until recently the land was occupied by other buildings but there is debate whether the land is designated for parking. The district conservation officer objects to the appearance of the designs. This is echoed by Sleaford Town Council, which says the buildings would create a three metre alleyway. The council argues there is no need for more small retail units and the building has historical significance.
