Employees rewarded for their loyal service

Three employees at a Sleaford factory have been given a special watch for clocking up 20 years’ good service with the company.
Mick Cormack, Ian Hooton and Mark Dolby were each awarded for their time and dedication to Great Plains’ Factory.
The experience these employees possess is important for the company’s development, believes Colin Adams, the company’s managing director. “They are spread across all parts of the company’s operations, so we have experience everywhere,” he said.
“That helps the factory run smoothly and ensures we keep up with demand for our machines, both in the UK and in our increasing range of export markets.”
Mr Adams said the company is lucky to benefit from the presence of a large number of long-serving staff.
Mick, Ian and Mark are just three of 19 members of staff who have just received service awards this year, with a further seven colleagues chalking up 15 years’ employment and another nine marking a decade at the Woodbridge Road-based farm machinery manufacturer.
Mick Cormack originally joined the company as a welder, before moving to manage the satellite production plant the company ran at Kirkby Underwood.
After a period with another engineering manufacturer, he returned to the Sleaford factory in 1991, and worked his way up to his current position as production manager of the company’s original production plant.
“I love working with the products, and the Sleaford factory has always had a great working atmosphere,” he said. “It is great to work for a company that has always been at the forefront of innovation in cultivation equipment.”
Ian Hooton initially joined the company’s aftersales and service department before moving into fabrication and then the design and development department, where he played a key role in the development of the Freeflow drill. He is now a research and development product specialist.
He said: “Agriculture has always been close to me heart and I love working with machines in the field. I love the agronomic aspects of the work as well – things are always moving on, it never stands still.”
Mark Dolby spent two years in the stores and then moved into production planning, the experience gained in these departments proving very useful when he moved into the sales department, where he is now sales administration manager.
“With this company I have had opportunities that I would never have got elsewhere,” said Mark. “We always have something new to tackle, and since the original Simba International Ltd was bought by Great Plains in 2010, we have had their range of machines to work on as well, which is exciting.”
