Long history of a pool in the town

Sleaford Leisure Centre has now closed to enable major

reburbishment to be carried out.

North Kesteven District Council has announced that RG Carters of Lincoln have been appointed as contractors for the project.

The old leisure centre, which closed its doors for the last time just over a week ago is set for a major facelift to provide a more modern, improved fitness and leisure facility for the Sleaford area.

In preparation for the work, the swimming pool will be drained over three days.

Chris Carr, branch manager at R G Carter Building Ltd, Lincoln, said: “As a local contractor we are delighted to work with NKDC on this exciting and forward-thinking scheme.

“There is a strong sense of

community in the district and being involved in the next stage in the life of the Sleaford Leisure Centre provides the opportunity to continue with our local investment in both trading activity and employment.”

The project will see a larger gym facility, splash pool and changing village amongst the plans.

Leader of North Kesteven District Council Coun Marion Brighton said; “We are delighted that a local contractor has been appointed. This is great news for the local economy, something we as a district council support heavily.

“We want to meet the needs of the customer and with RG Carters work on the project we believe we can do just that. We would also like to recognise what a tremendous asset Leisure Connection and their employees have been to the facility during this difficult time. They have been extremely dedicated to their customers.”

The leisure centre will remain closed for a year while the work is in progress but customers can use other facilities in the area, including Harpers on East Road, Sleaford, Grantham Mere’s Leisure Centre, North Hykeham Leisure Centre and Bourne Leisure Centre.
