New cycle route on track

A NEW cycleway designed to encourage people to leave their cars at home and use an alternative way of travelling into town, is nearing completion.

Various improvements on Lincoln Road between Holdingham roundabout and Sleaford are due to start on July 9 to join up the final parts of the new Sustrans Connect2 cycleway from Leasingham to Sleaford, which has been funded by Lottery cash.

This includes the removal of three trees ahead of the main work to create a new cycle and pedestrian refuge on York Road at its junction with Lincoln Road, which is starting on July 30.

Area highways manager, Rowan Smith, said: “The highways improvements needed are almost complete. A new cycle and pedestrian refuge is being constructed on York Road over the summer to make it easier for cyclists and pedestrians to cross and the junction itself is being widened to enhance visibility for motorists.

“This work will cause some disruption as we need to close one lane for traffic leaving the estate. Also motorists travelling in both directions on Lincoln Road may experience minor delays. Please do bear with us and find an alternative route if you can.”

The improvements are being carried out over the holiday period, when traffic is lighter, to minimise disruption.

Bus services will still run as normal unless otherwise advertised. The work should be completed before school starts again in September, when the new cycleway will be officially opened.
