A fish and chip shop manager from Sleaford will learn if she is to be crowned the Young Fish Frier of the Year at the National Fish and Chip Awards next week.

Rachel Tweedale, 25, from The Elite Fish and Chip Company in Sleaford is one of six young friers who has reached the finals of the national competition after a gruelling judging day and an anonymous visit from industry experts.

The Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year Award will recognise three contestants in first, second and third place at The National Fish and Chip Awards on Tuesday January 20.

“It’s been a great experience to be one of the six finalists in this national competition and I’m really pleased to have got this far,” said Rachel.

“I’ve had the opportunity to visit Scotland’s Peterhead Fish Market to learn more about the supply chain of fish and I’ve seen first-hand how the frying ranges are manufactured in Holland.

“I’ve learnt so much about the industry and have had my preparation and frying skills put to the test throughout the judging process.

“Thank you to all the customers and staff at The Elite Fish and Chip Company in Sleaford who have supported me and wished me luck throughout the competition.”
