Calls for vigilance after reports of suspicious activity in Dowsby and Haconby

Police are urging local residents to be on the alert after reports of suspicious activity in the Dowsby and Haconby area south of Sleaford.

PCSO Sandra Brommell of Bourne and Billingborough Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “No offences have been reported however it is a time to be vigilant and security minded.”

The incidents were all reported yesterday (Wednesday and Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon men in a red Ford Fiesta and a blue vehicle were seen as acting suspiciously in Fen Road, Dowsby.

The men had sat in their vehicles for around an hour before getting out and walking down the drives of two properties, one of which was known to be unoccupied. On noticing they had been seen they got back into their cars and drove off.

In Chapel Street, Haconby at around 9pm on Tuesday night while householders were at home, an unknown person opened and closed a front door. A short while later a ‘circle’ in white chalk was located on the pavement outside.

At around 11.25am yesterday in Main Street, Haconby a white male described as wearing a green and white striped shirt with dull coloured blue shorts enquired if a caravan was for sale.

This was deemed as suspicious as the caravan was not advertised for sale along and he claimed to be delivering for ‘Queen Ferry Couriers’. No vehicle was seen.

In an unrelated incident someone broke into a barn at Dunston Fen, near Metheringham but did not take anything.

The incident was reported on May 22.
