A social group for older villagers in Ruskington is celebrating having been awarded over £2,500 by the Lottery Fund for more activities.
The Evergreen Social Club for men and women is in its 18th year and still going strong with around 36 members ranging in age from their 50s to 90s meeting every Friday from 2-4pm in the Winchelsea Centre.
Committee member Isabella Vint masterminded the bid for cash to benefit members. She said: “We are going to be refurbishing the games mat and buying new games, as well as using the money to go on trips.”
This can be simple lunch outings or Christmas dinner.
She said: “It is to improve the quality of life for members. I have been doing volunteering work for over 20 years and asked the chairman where we got our funding from. But apart from a start up grant the group has tried to manage without.”
Mrs Vint was given the job of seeking out funding to enhance the activities the group could offer. She said: “I went on line to see what was on offer and put in a bid to the Lottery for items that we could do with. The chairman and secretary could not believe it when we got word there was an offer of £2,555. We sent off everything they asked for and the money arrived in the bank account last week.”
The group members were thrilled to hear of the award and are discussing how best to use the funding.
If anyone in the Ruskington area wishes to join the club, they can just go along to a meeting.
