NORTH Kesteven has one of the best recycling rates in the country, with residents consistently recycling over 50 percent of their waste, but there is still a minority who are putting the wrong items in the wrong bins.
With this in mind, the district council will be out and about this month at local supermarkets and Co-ops to spread the message of responsible recycling, and to offer advice and guidance on what goes where.
You can catch up with the team and get the answers to all your recycling queries on the following dates and locations: Monday July 16 9-11am North Hykeham Co-op; Wednesday July 18 9-11.30am Metheringham Co-op; Thursday July 19 2-4pm Witham St Hughes Co-op; Tuesday July 24 2-4pm Sainsbury’s in Sleaford; Friday July 27 9-11am North Hykeham Market.
The roadshows are helping to ensure that conscientious residents’ efforts do not go to waste; incorrectly recycled waste can contaminate recycling, ending up with it going to landfill. NKDC will also begin placing advisory tags on residents’ bins where waste is found in the wrong ones, with repeated recycling errors potentially leading to non-collection, in a bid to ensure that NK’s recycling records are maintained.
NKDC Executive Board member Geoff Hazelwood says: “While residents have all the information they need about how to dispose of waste and what can and can’t be recycled on the new luggage-style bin tags, these roadshows are a great opportunity for residents to test their knowledge and ask the team anything they are unsure of. Information and assistance are also available via our website and telephone hotline.”
Further help and advice is also available via NKDC’s refuse hotline, (Tel: 0800 174497).
