BEING a parent while juggling a business is a hard task, and nobody knows this better than Fiona Mitchell.

Fiona, a mother-of-two from Pointon, runs Georgiana May, an online high quality gifts and homeware shop which she initially started up to sell her own products but widened it to become a marketplace for other British high quality craftspeople from which she takes a percentage of sales. There is information and photos about each artisan involved.

There is a growing number of people beginning to use their creativity to generate some income and she said: “It is for people who have a hobby rather than making it a living but want to make something out of it.”

The business was only launched this July as a way for Fiona to stay at home with her young children. She has now been nominated for an award at The Mumpreneur Awards 2012, a national award scheme for mums who run their own enterprise.

The Mumpreneur Awards 2012 are the UK’s first national business awards dedicated solely to mums in business. Now in its fourth year, the awards have been a platform for many mumpreneurs to enhance their business, and continue to grow even through this uncertain economic climate.

As well as being nominated in the Best Start Up, Best Online Business Award and Best Interactive Business Award categories, Fiona is also in with a chance of winning The Inspirational Business Mum Award, which will be awarded to the mother who proves to be an inspiration to all women in business.

Fiona now has to wait until later this month to find out whether she has made the finals, which will take place on September 30 at the Heart of England Conference Centre in Warwickshire.

Fiona said: “It would be fantastic to even just have made it to the finals of such a prestigious national award.”
