Police are appealing for information after a speed camera designed to save lives was vandalised in a Sleaford area village.

The speed camera on the A153 Main Road at Anwick was burnt out using a tyre in the early hours of Tuesday morning last week and Lincolnshire Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

This camera was sited in its current location to slow traffic and to allow vehicles from Moy Park and associated roads to enter the road safely after there were nine incidents where three people were seriously injured in a short space of time.

John Siddle of the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership (LRSP), said: “Since the camera was commissioned in 2002 only one serious and one slight injury have occurred, an 89 per cent reduction.

“We suspect the people who committed criminal damage to the camera did so for purely selfish reasons, probably to save a £60 fine and three points on their licence, and have little regard for the safety of others.”

LRSP are offering a £1,000 reward for anyone with any information. If anyone knows anything about this incident, call Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting Incident 11 of October 23 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
