Brothers are jailed for their ‘barbaric behaviour’

Two brothers who kicked a man after knocking him to the ground have each been jailed for nine months at Lincoln Crown Court.

Aaron Woods and his younger brother Leon attacked their victim in the early hours of the morning following a confrontation in Sleaford on September 3, 2011.

Judge Sean Morris told them: “Kicking somebody on the ground often results in death or brain damage. Even just one kick with a training shoe. The message must go out that this barbaric behaviour of kicking people on the ground must stop.”

Aaron Woods, 22, of Newfield Road, Sleaford; and Leon Woods, 20, of Spring Gardens, Sleaford; each admitted causing actual bodily harm when they appeared last Wednesday.

David Lee, prosecuting, said the victim had arranged to meet his former girlfriend in the town after work. When he arrived she was in a pub with Aaron Woods together with Leon and Leon’s partner. The man was in his car when Aaron Woods shouted at him and after the victim got out of his vehicle he was struck by both brothers and kicked on the ground. Leon Woods then started kicking the man’s car. The victim called police and moved his car but was attacked and kicked again while waiting for officers.

He had extensive bruising.

Chris Jeyes, for Aaron Woods, said his client had a problem with his temper. There had been a build-up to the incident. Both defendants had been affected by the death of their mother and Aaron had helped care for her. “He is deeply ashamed of what he has done and he knows his mother would be ashamed of his actions,” he added.

Edna Leonard, for Leon Woods, said he had never been involved in any trouble before.

“He says there was a remark made about his mother and that is how he came to be involved.

“Something caused him to lose his temper and he is ashamed of himself for the way he behaved that night.”
