Fire investigators believe the cause of a blaze which took hold of a disused building in Potterhanworth on Sunday afternoon to be arson.

Five appliances were in attendance at the derelict warehouse in Station Road formerly used as storage for a Metheringham perfume factory and nearby residents were asked to keep windows closed due to the smoke.

The building and contents were badly damaged after the alarm was raised shortly before 3.30pm. The fire was eventually brought under control after three hours with one crew remaining on scene to damp down on Monday.
