New Neighbourhood Watch chairman

Sleaford and District Neighbourhood Watch Association held its annual meeting this month when a new chairman was elected.

The association in recent years has been going through a sticky patch with falling interest and low turnouts, but there has been renewed interest from residents especially in the Heckington area after a spate of vandalism and thefts.

A recent questionnaire to determine what people wanted from the Neighbourhood Watch produced nearly 1,000 replies and highlighted the shift towards better communication and exchange of reports and advice that is helping to solve crime. A newsletter is sent out digitally.

A new chairman was elected to take over from John Bennett. David Simpson who is ex-Army and has served in the Diplomatic Service. His experience in this work stretches over 40 years.

The role of the 101 telephone number compared to use of the 999 emergency Number was explained. Support for the PCSO’s was strong and the meeting was informed that they are now up to strength.
