SECONDARY school students were given a pulsating CSI style look at the work of forensic scientists.
The year 11 BTEC Applied Science students at St George’s Academy’s Billingborough site received a visit from Pulse, an educational programme which brings forensic science to schools in hands-on learning activities.
During the morning session the students were taught some of the key elements of forensics work, including how to take finger prints, collecting fibre samples and making casts of footprints.
Then during the afternoon they were split into groups, kitted out in white forensics suits and given their own murder scenes to investigate.
The were four or five suspects in the scenarios and the students had to solve the crime using their newly learnt skills.
Head of Science at the school, Susan Dancey, said that the students were so enthused by the topic that some had expressed an interest in getting involved with forensic science on leaving school.
She added: “I was really impressed with the company. They put on a great workshop for the students.”
