UPDATE: ‘Human remains not found’, police insist
Following yesterday’s (Tuesday’s) case at Lincoln Crown Court when it was reported human remains had been found in the James Brodie murder investigation, police have insisted this is not the case.
A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “I can categorically state, having spoken to the Senior Investigating Officer, that we have not found human remains.”
Detectives had wanted to speak to Mr Brodie over the killing of a Nottinghamshire jeweller nearly a decade ago.
The nineteen-year-old has been missing since 2003, after 64-year-old gran Marian Bates was shot dead as she tried to protect her daughter at their family run store in Arnold, Nottingham.
He has not made any contact with family or friends in more than nine years.
Dean Betton, 32, of Raleigh Street, Radford, Nottingham, yesterday appeared at Lincoln Crown Court by video-link charged with Mr Brodie’s murder.
Speaking from Lincoln Prison, where he is remanded, Betton spoke only to confirm his name. No pleas were entered and there was no application for bail.
Judge Michael Heath remanded Betton into custody until his next court appearance. He will next appear for a review hearing at Lincoln Crown Court on April 29.
Last week, Nottinghamshire Police searched land at Maize Farm, East Heckington, in connection with their inquiry.
Police said they have now completed their searches of the farmhouse.
A 31-year-old man, not from the Sleaford area, who was also arrested on suspicion of Mr Brodie’s murder, has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
