A-mazing grades
STUDENTS throughout the Sleaford area were celebrating once again after the announcement of more good A-level results last week.
Although for the first time in many years the number of A* and A grades fell slightly as the Government tackles the thorny issue of ‘grade inflation’, there was plenty for Sleaford schools to be delighted about as results came in above the national average.
Kesteven and Sleaford High School had the distinction of being one of seven schools in Lincolnshire to achieve a 100 per cent pass rate at A-level, with Carre’s Grammar School and St George’s Academy also achieving good results.
Lincolnshire’s Director of Children’s Services, Debbie Barnes, praised county schools for an ‘excellent set of results’ and said: “With the Raising of the Participation Age upon us next year, our students set a shining example of just what can be achieved with dedication and perseverance.”
For the students it was the culimination of years of hard work.
One of the highest achievers locally was Peter Carey of Carre’s Grammar School, who achieved four A* grades and has been offered a place at Robinson College, Camnbridge to study engineering.
Peter said: “I really didn’t think I would get four A*s, it feels like all my hard work has paid off. My parents are chuffed to bits and I’m very pleased with my results.”
Another happy student was Kesteven and Sleaford High School head girl Sally Monson. She too is off to Cambridge to study chemical engineering after also getting four A* grades.
She said: “I’m so pleased that all my hard work has been worth it.”
