Academy to train teachers
Under a new scheme to train teachers in local schools, St George’s Academy will become the largest ‘School Direct’ training centre for secondary teachers in Lincolnshire, from September 2013.
It enables those who have just finished a degree, or have been working in another career to combine teacher training with learning on the job.
Paul Watson, Principal at St George’s Academy, commented: “We are delighted to have been allocated 25 teacher training posts. This is the largest allocation of secondary training places across Lincolnshire by far. The Teaching Agency have recognised the excellent provision that we can offer, and we are looking forward to working closely with Bishop Grosseteste University College and our associate schools in developing this exciting opportunity. Lincoln University will also be providing the opportunity for trainee teachers to work at Masters level.”
School Direct is a new route into teaching involving top schools, offering tax-free bursaries of up to £20,000, or a salary, together with training and development to attract the best graduates. Teachers will also be training at Carre’s Grammar School. Candidates can now apply for 2013/2014.
