After less than a year in operation, a Ruskington pre-school and nursery are celebrating after a ‘good’ inspection.

First Steps nursery at Chestnut Street Primary School opened their doors in April 2012, and have received their first Ofsted inspection with an overall Good rating after just eight months.

The report praised the practitioners of the pre-school, describing the staff as “good role models” and that consequently the children are well behaved, settled and they have a “very well-resourced environment”.

The children’s learning environment was described by Ofsted as being “arranged to support children’s independence”, and said that the staff have a well-established relationship with parents, who told the inspector that staff are “very professional and friendly”.

It also said that the children are well prepared for moving into primary school as they regularly visit the reception class and share learning opportunities with the older children.

The Ofsted inspector suggested that the pre-school could improve their outdoor environment to enhance the children’s progress in early writing skills for a purpose.

Manager Olwen Owen said: “We are delighted with the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. We were inspected under the newly-revised Early Years Foundation Stage which only came into force from September, therefore, the pre-school did extremely well given that we were inspected under the new requirements so soon after it was enforced.

“We are very proud of the whole team who are very dedicated practitioners and have worked very hard in the last eight months since opening.”
