History comes alive for pupils

The Viking era came marauding into the present day at a primary school near Sleaford recently.

Year Five pupils at Ruskington’s Chestnut Street CofE Primary School held a day of activities inspired by the historical period.

The day began with the sound of a horn blowing and classrooms being raided by special guest Hrothgar the Viking.

The school hall was set up as a Viking camp, with a tent, cooking pot, replica weapons and other elements designed to transport the pupils back in time.

Children were shown the replica weapons and told how they were used in the time of the Vikings. They also took part in interactive stories about Norse gods and were given the chance to ask their guest Hrothgar questions about life in Viking times.
