PHOTO GALLERY: A level results - Pass rate rises again at St George's Academy

The post 16 results saw a further rise in the pass rate to 98 per cent. A level A and B grades were also in line with last year’s performance at 32 per cent while vocational subjects faired well improving to a 100 per cent pass rate.  

Most significantly, a massive three quarters of students achieved grades of distinction or distinction* in vocational courses, a new record for the Academy and a 50 per cent improvement on performance in 2015.

Academy Principal, Wayne Birks said: “These are yet another excellent set of post 16 results and I’m delighted that so many of our students have achieved grades which have either secured them employment or a place at their first choice university. At A level and in vocational subjects, St George’s students continue to perform at a high level and I would like to congratulate them and my colleagues for all the hard work and effort that has made this success possible.

“The growth and success of the Sleaford Joint Sixth Form, with its inclusive ethos and impressive work ethic, has enabled local students to achieve beyond expectation and this is evident from the grades achieved.”

There were personal success stories too. Charlotte Purnell was overjoyed at getting two C grades at A level and two distinction* grades at BTEC while having the added challenge of giving birth to little daughter Esme eight months ago, who came with her to collect her results.

Tearful Charlotte said: “All the way through I have thought I had failed my exams and I was busy with my new baby too.”

Deputy Head Boy Matt Intee got an A*, an A and a C at A level plus a B in AS level. He said he had done better than he expected and so would be getting on the phone to try to upgrade his university place, otherwise he would be heading to Greenwich University to study financial maths.

Bradley Porter did well getting an A* and 2 A grades.

Ellie Milne got an A*, an A, and a B at A level and a distinction* in music at BTEC to do English Literature at York University. She said she was surprised and excited: “I didn’t decide to go to university until last year and so had to change my options and do extra work, so it is more than I expected.”

Beth Stenton will be treading the boards having secured an A and two C grades at A level and a distinction* at BTEC to go to the Hammond Theatre School in Chester. She said: “I’m going to do musical theatre - I want to perform and do it outside school too with the Trapdoor Theatre Academy.”
