In only the third year of A level examination students since introducing a sixth form, Sir William Robertson Academy in Welbourn is celebrating exam success.

Following the opening of its Sixth Form provision in September 2012, the school saw many delighted students gain places at their first choice universities today (Thursday).

Mark Guest, headteacher commented: “This is a record-breaking set of results for our students and we couldn’t be more proud of their achievements.”

Conor Elliott from Navenby is the school’s first student to study four A Levels and did exceptionally well gaining an A* in Media Studies, A in English Language, A in English Literature and a B in Drama and Theatre Studies.

Conor will be studying Media Communication and Cultural Studies at Newcastle University.

Rachael Sutton from Wigsley, near Newark, gained an A in Psychology, A in English Language and a B in German and is going to study Modern Languages and Linguistics at Newcastle University.

Geri Goldstein from Sleaford gained an A in Media Studies, B in Psychology and B in History and is going to the University of Essex to study Psychology.

Ellie Reynolds, also from Sleaford, gained an A in English Language, B in Business Studies and B in Psychology. She is going to study Events Management at Lincoln University.

McKenna Henson from Claypole gained three B’s in German, English Language and Media Studies and will study Creative Advertising at Lincoln University. Alex May from Ancaster gained three B’s in Business Studies, English Language and Media Studies and will be taking up an apprenticeship within the Civil Service.

Mr Guest said: “There have been some outstanding individual performances this year but the overall level for student achievement – based on average points scores - is the highest we have ever achieved.”

Alongside top A Level grades, the average grade in vocational qualifications was a Level 3 Distinction Star – the highest grade that can be awarded.

“Our students now have a great platform from which to enter some of the top universities in the UK,” said Mr Guest.

Seb Mann, Head of Sixth Form added: “I am so happy for our amazing students and the fantastic team of staff at the school who have all worked incredibly hard again this year. A-level results are up for the third year in a row and we have a record number of applications from students wanting to join us in September. Our sixth form continues to go from strength to strength.”

Year 12 students are also celebrating exam success with some superb AS Level results. Emma Sahall from Newark secured an A in her A Level Maths a year early plus gaining an A in her AS Further Maths, an A in Product Design and an A in Media Studies. Recently appointed Head Girl, Emily Andrew from Newark secured three A’s in Maths, Further Maths and English Language; Joshua Kilcullen from Coddington who has been appointed Head Boy gained A’s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and a B in Chemistry; and Connor Stenson from Long Bennington gained an A in Further Maths and B’s in Maths, Biology and PE.

Some of the school’s students had received unconditional offers at universities including Samuel Walton from Newark who will study architecture at Sheffield Hallam University and Jessica Howard who is going to study Fine Art at Central College at Nottingham. Tom Lane from Barkston, who is a former Head Boy and talented musician, will be joining the SAE Institute in London to study Music Production.
