They had everything but the church bells ringing when bride Aimee Ballard ‘married’ groom Jacob Horrocks.

But the happy couple were not really geting hitched, as it was a pretend wedding acted out by year five pupils at St Botolph’s School, Quarrington.

Class teacher Clare Elsom explained: “It is linked to our work on celebrations in Christianity. We had a full wedding party with bride, groom, mother and father of the bride and groom, two best men, ushers and three bridesmaids.”

The ceremony was conducted by parish priest, the Rev Sandra Benham in the school hall and was authentically followed by a buffet reception for all the wedding guests (the rest of the year five pupils) who all dressed up in their best suits and dresses for the occasion. There were speeches and the cutting of the cake, which was divided up so that each child had a piece.

A pupil even performed the role of designated wedding photographer, but there are no plans for the ‘newlyweds’ to be heading off on honeymoon.
