Students donned pointed ears, hairy feet and cloaks to celebrate Hobbit Bilbo Baggins’ birthday at Kesteven and Sleaford High School.

The library hosted a literary themed tea party during the lunch hour to celebrate the works of J R Tolkien with dressing up, crafts, food and activities.

Library resource manager Kathryn Wallis explained that last year they held a similar event on the theme of Alice in Wonderland. This time activities were centred around Tolkien’s books, The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings and students from Carre’s Grammar School visited to join in too.

The team of library captains made cakes, cardboard towers and a web in their free time as well as an Elf gateway. Party goers could make brooches, enter a three-legged Hobbit feet race and test their knowledge of the characters.
