High School pupils take part in world-wide challenge

A school near Sleaford was part of a worldwide fundraising venture last week.
An estimated 20,000 children from 40 countries took part in the Save The Children’s Race Against Hunger World Marathon Challenge, where pupils in schools all over the world teamed up to run the length of a marathon, and Sir William Robertson High School in Welbourn weas one of the participants.
Working in four teams of 36, a team from each house, the Year 7 and 8 pupils took turns to run a lap of the school playing field (200 metres each) in a relay format to cover 26 miles.
The winning team was that of Dragoon House who completed the relay in two hours 50 mins.
PE teacher Christina Mower said: “It was a really good event and the pupils really enjoyed it.
“They gave up their lunchtime in the freezing cold to complete the race.”
The competition was aided by the Year 10 GCSE PE students who were on hand to run the event smoothly.
GCSE IT students also operated a live feed to the event on the school’s website and reporters from the school’s magazine were present to cover the action.
To raise money and awareness of the Race Against Hunger appeal, each pupil who took part gave a donation and those writing for the magazine also contributed.
The total amount raised by the event is still being counted up.
