Leadenham CofE Primary School has welcomed a new headteacher. Matthew Nicholson, 31, took charge after the Easter break and held an afternoon tea party on a St George’s Day theme on Thursday to get to know parents.
Mr Nicholson was previously deputy headteacher at North Somercotes School and said he fell in love with the school and its setting straight away. He said: “The children just bowled me over and parents’ support is amazing. I have felt part of the team straight away.
“The staff really are amazing and care passionately about the children here.”
Despite having only 35 pupils on roll, he said numbers have been steady and the Diocese of Lincoln has just invested in work to open up some of the smaller rooms.
He said one of the school’s strong points is its small class sizes to really get to know the children and push their progress and the school’s close relationship with the community which he hopes to expand on.
Since Easter, Dappledown Nursery now provides before and after school care on the site too.
