Parents' views sought over closure plan

PARENTS have until April 8 to lodge their views on the proposed closure of the Lafford High School in Billinghay.

Peter Duxbury, Director of Children's Services, has formally begun the 28 day public consultation to seek views on the proposal which will see the school close by 2010.

The plan includes having no further intake of pupils from this September and the transfer of pupils when they reach year 9 to St George's College of Technology, Sleaford; Coteland's School, Ruskington or The Gartree Community School, Tattershall.

The final closure of the school is planned for August 31, 2010.

Lincolnshire County Council's executive will consider responses to the first stage of the consultation on May 6 and a decision will be made on whether or not to proceed with the second stage of consultation.

If it is decided to proceed a statutory notice will be publicised and there will be a formal consultation period of six weeks for objections to be lodged. Following this the county council's executive will make a final decision with parents notified in July.

* To take part in the consultation, write to Peter Duxbury, Children's Services, County Offices, Newland, Lincoln LN1 1YQ by Tuesday, April 8, quoting 'LHSB'.
