CHILDREN have been encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and try new sports thanks to a recent workshop.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School in Sleaford received a visit from the Sports Challenge team. They went into school to run a disabled sports workshop to give pupils a feel for sports played by disabled people and see sporting activities from a different perspective.

The children were able to try all manner of sports that they had never attempted before throughout the day, including speed shot, wheelchair basketball, speed hurdles and Boccia.

The whole school joined in the activities and the pupils were also awarded medals at the end of the session for playing in accordance with the Olympic values, such as playing fairly and being a good team player.

Class Two teacher at the school, Annabel Anderson, who organised the event, said the pupils had really enjoyed the workshop and had gained a lot out of it.

She added: “They particularly enjoyed the wheelchair basketball.

“The day gave them a good understanding of how disbaled people can play sports.”
