A driving instructor from Helpringham is looking to raise money for his children’s primary school in gratitude for all the staff’s hard work over the years.

Paul Whitaker moved to Helpringham 10 years ago and this summer sees his fourth and youngest son leaving the local village school and joining Carre’s Grammar School.

He said: “I wanted to thank the school for doing such a good job with my boys. I also want to celebrate my first 10 years as a driving instructor in which I have had a record year with one of the best pass rates in the county.”

He is running a raffle in which top prize is 12 hours driving tuition with his Ideal Driving School, worth £250, plus runner-up prizes of eight and four hours, meaning there are £500 of driving lessons up for grabs. Tickets are £2 each or three for £5 available from Helpringham School or by calling Paul on 07951 904131.

Even if you do not have the winning ticket you can claim an introductory discount on lessons. Back in 2010 Paul ran a similar raffle and raised just over £300 for the Air Ambulance charity.

This year he has succeeded in achieving 22 out of 23 first time passes. One of his techniques is to get drivers accustomed to a variety of towns to become better, more experienced drivers while still passing within three to four months.

Paul is also one of the few Sleaford area instructors qualified to carry out instructor training and is keen to train up more to help with his workload.
