A SLEAFORD primary school has been given the seal of approval by both Ofsted and the church.
Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Primary School was recently inspected by both Ofsted and the Catholic Diocese of Nottingham and achieved a ‘Good’ report from both bodies.
The reports commented on the improvements the school had made in recent years and praised not only the management of the school under headteacher Sarah Weldon but the rest of the staff and the outcomes for the pupils.
The Diocesan inspection quoted the school’s capacity for sustained improvement as ‘Good’, describing the headteacher and leadership team as having the skills to evaluate the schools strengths and weaknesses and plans for improvement.
The report said that the pupils have a ‘strong sense of belonging to the school community’, are well behaved and keen to learn in the ‘stimulating and creative environment provided by the school’.
It also praised the school’s ‘strong sense of its Catholic identity’ and said that it is well led by its headteacher and new senior leadership team, who have a ‘positive and challenging vision for the school’s future’.
The Ofsted report further described Our Lady’s outcomes for pupils as ‘Good’, stating that pupils make good progress because ‘they want to learn and they respond well to good teaching’.
The school’s teaching was also praised by Ofsted, who highlighted the ‘good use of assessment to plan appropriate work’ by the teachers and commented on the ‘effective deployment of teaching assistants and other adult’s’.
Mrs Weldon said: “We are delighted with the outcome of these inspections.
“The staff and governors have worked very hard to make improvements since the last inspection and their dedication and commitment has been rightly recognised.
“We are very lucky to have such delightful children to teach and are grateful to the parents for the support that they give.”
