A FORMER pupil of a village school returned for a visit to share their love of the Olympics with his own.
Seated discus thrower Kieran Tscherniawsky, who will be representing Great Britain in seated discus at the London 2012 Paralympics, went back to Kirkby la Thorpe Primary School on Monday to present the school with a plaque to commemorate its place in the Get Set network.
Kieran, who used to attend the school, also gave a talk to the pupils about his own Olympic prospects and how he hopes to achieve glory at the Games this year.
He also handed out signed photographs of himself to the children.
The Get Set award is presented to schools who show their commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values, which are: respect, friendship, equality, excellence, inspiration, courage and determination.
They must also be seen to use the London 2012 Games to inspire others to get involved in values-based projects and activities.
Kirkby la Thorpe School took part in last year’s Mini Olympics event at RAF Cranwell and the staff have been encouraging the children to keep Olympic logs recording their work towards the values.
Headteacher Katie Bartle said: “Since Kieran is a former pupil of ours, it was very fitting that came in to present us with this plaque.”
