Students in Olympic countdown

APRIL 18, 2012 marked 100 days until the London Olympics and to celebrate this milestone Sir William Robertson High School at Welbourn decided to create the Olympic rings using students on the school field.
Students are doing different activities running up to the event related to the seven Olympic values: friendship, respect, excellence, equality, courage, determination and inspiration.
The school’s house system is already set out into red, green, yellow and blue, so performing arts teacher Emily Bennett asked 20 students from each house to volunteer. The 20 black ring students were gifted and talented pupils in Sports Education. All the other students were asked to bring in a T-shirt in their house colours and they planned to release 100 balloons.
Miss Bennett said: “The day arrived and so did the rain. But the students ventured out onto the field. I stood at the top window of the school and shouted instructions for the students and when the whistle blew the students released their balloons. It was very beautiful to see all the five colours intertwine in the air and then drift away into the distance. It’s a very exciting time in British history and the school intend to celebrate this.”
